IMG_7081On Sunday, June 5, our focus will be the celebration of the ministry of music. Our Chancel Choir is concluding another very successful year of guiding and deepening our worship through the music they offer. And Bob Blafield, after eleven years as Music Director, is retiring. This is both a sad and joyful day. Bob is such a gift and so talented in so many ways, but he is ready to lay down the burdens of weekly rehearsals and services. Through the gifts of music, some special guests, and tender words, we will give voice to all of our gratitude for Bob’s heartfelt gifts offered to us in so many profound ways.

Bob’s tenure has been a shining part of South Church over this past decade and more. Our music and words on this Sunday will help us remember and give thanks for all that we have shared and received. My reflections for the day will lift up a musical theme of Scripture and the ministry of Bob Blafield. I’m looking forward to crafting such a message!

There will also be a special Coffee Hour hosted for us by the Diaconate in Bob’s honor. Finally, because this will be a unique moment in the life of South, we will postpone the sharing of the Sacrament of Communion to the following Sunday, June 12. Please come and join us for this joyous day of celebration!
